Day 6: Longyan, Again!

We had some free time after we ate breakfast so we went on a walk through Longyan.  This tulou (round clan family home of the Hakka) was one of several within the city.

We were walking down the street and peaked into this mini factory.  Karl asked what they were making, and they showed us they are light weight windbreaker jackets.  Maybe next time you see one, it will be in Wal-Mart.

We met back at our hotel and walked to the indoor/outdoor restaurant and were served this delicacy, pig's ear and assorted pig pieces.

After lunch we went by bus to tour four different tulou.  We were surprised to have such beautiful weather.

We were as big a novelty as the tulou.  These local tourists couldn't resist taking our picture while Lisa captured our group photo.

Inside the first tulou.

Our tour guide told us that Longyan is famous for many different dried things.  When we were here last year, it was persimmons!  This time it was some assorted green vegetables including one they served us called meicai.  The one I'm glad they did not serve us is mouse.  We got no clarification on that, only that they dry mice.

They don't worry too much about where it is placed while it dries.

We remembered from our last visit, the tour includes a tea tasting session after which the students can purchase tea to bring home.  While they were tasting, we wandered around.

This is another ancestral hall for a local family.  The names recorded inside went back hundreds of years.

These tall markers have the names of members of the clan who were recognized for their achievements.
More drying vegetables on our tulou route.

Inside another tulou.

The backside of a square tulou.  They are not all round.

We ended the night with a little street dancing with the Chinese women.  We were all following a TV inside the building, but the woman in front of the TV was very good too.
