We started the morning with a late breakfast. Everyone arrived promptly, ready for their first day of adventures.
After breakfast we had an orientation. The students received a brief introduction to Fuzhou with a PowerPoint about local customs, food and even some basic words in Mandarin.
The Hwa Nan buddies came and gave some of the presentations too. After the orientation, the students went on a walking tour of campus and the neighborhood, which included having lunch together.
This was our lunch. We ate with the foreign teachers. Aiyi cooked some of Lisa's favorite things she makes.
This is the front gate to the college. After lunch Karl and I walked around campus and the adjacent college. It started to rain just like home.
A new sign that has been added to the campus.
The students with their buddies on the steps of the International Faculty House, where we stayed.
This looks like a mushroom, but was really a bun filled with pork served at our Welcome Banquet. We also had frozen lettuce, frozen green olives, fried river fish, shrimp with their heads, fish tripe soup. My favorite was beef with fresh mango.
Fancy fruit tray that signaled the end of the meal. Since tomatoes are fruit, they are often served this way.
We peaked into a wedding reception that was down the hall from our banquet room. The father was extolling praise on the mother of the bride for raising such a beautiful daughter.
When the guests arrived, they could find their table and seat assignment by using their phone to read the QR code.
Picture of the bride and groom on display outside the party.
The party is not over until the photo is taken! (Buddies weren't included in this meal.)
