Don't Fence Me In!

Mason approached the city last summer to see if they had any Eagle Scout worthy projects.  His assignment was to raise the funds and build a split-rail cedar fence to enclose this tree at the city park.

After getting donations from a local feed store and the county parks department, he rallied members of his scout troop to come dig and build the fence on a (thankfully) dry 37-degree Saturday morning.

They dug the holes skirting tree roots.

His Dad was a good resource since he grew up "riding fence" to maintain the 45 miles of fence they had on the cattle ranch.

It was trickier than you might think, getting the post holes dug in just the right place so the cross rails fit together like Lincoln Logs.

But lots of hands made quick work.  It only took one emergency run to the feed store to get one extra set of rails.

This naughty no-no is sitting on the just made fence!!  Fortunately his contract does not require upkeep.

The sun came out just as we were finishing up.

It looks like it fits right in.

Project complete!
