Lake Tahoe

We were warned before we arrived at Lake Tahoe that the water was very cold. It didn't stop the cousins from playing Frisbee in the water.

Mike and Naomi taking Andy out for a spin in the kayak.

After a day in the sun, some of us got smart about our sun exposure.

Mason did some of his AP summer reading.  Spencer read an Agatha Christie novel.

Karl read a book about Marco Polo.  Lauren enjoyed not having to read.

Baby Perry kept us entertained in the shade while his mom played on the paddle board.

Mike brought the board down the shore. Having never been on a paddle board, he was a natural and did not fall in.  Karl was the first to try, and he did take a spill into the lake.

Spence went out on his knees.

Mason got up on his feet.

 I didn't want to get my hair wet . . . .

Linds picked up an unexpected passenger.  She too got up on her feet and fell in.

The water by the shore was a little choppy, but Lauren took it out too.

We went on hikes on two different mornings.  We hiked to a waterfall one day and the next day we hiked to Vikingsholm.

Hiking at 7,000 feet slowed us sea-level types down a bit.

We are used to hiking in rain forests.  All this sun on a hike is different for us.

Vikingsholm is a 38-room mansion on the shores of Emerald Bay built in the late 1920s as a summer residence by Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight.

Mrs. Knight also built a tea house on the top of Fannette Island where she could entertain her guests.

Her guests were expected to dress for meals.  Their cars were washed and topped off with fuel when they returned from their adventures.

We could easily imagine staying at Vikingsholm a for a few weeks in the summer.

Wow! What a great vacation! I can totally relate to the whole hiking at 7,000 feet in the sunshine thing. I still lose my breath! I'm right there with you, too, on not wanting to get my hair wet!
