Mason and Karl went on a practice hike around Mt. Rainier today. They were climbing at 8,000 feet so they will be ready to scale Mt. Adams (12,000 feet) in two weeks.

We had a rain storm down at seal level so they ended up in a blizzard, and rain and hail.

The clouds parted slightly for a view of Rainier.

They wore all kinds of gear -- shorts for some sections and snow pants for the slide back down after they turned around.

Mason thought his backpack seemed to be getting heavier. When he got to the car and took it off, he discovered a snowball he had been collecting.
