Lavender and the Sea in Sequim

We rented this house for a few days in Sequim, located in Washington's banana belt.

The house was on the water.  You could jump off the back patio right into the Sound.  We had fun watching ships come in through the telescope.

When the tide went out, the herons came in to feed.  We could see them pull up all kinds of sea creatures to eat for breakfast.

The view from our backyard.  Lots of different sizes and shapes of vacation homes with big windows.

Of course, we were still plugged in at home.  It is not a vacation without the internet--that is deprivation!

We took walks in the neighborhood.

And toured many of the lavender farms preparing for their lavender festival, which started the day we left.

We picked some lavender.

And dried it at home.

But after you have seen a couple of lavender farms, you've seen enough we decided.

We have always wanted to hike the Dungeness Spit out to the light house.  We have vacationed near the spot for many years when the kids were little, and the hike was too challenging for them then.

The hike was six miles, one direction, on rocky beach terrain.  We timed it fine on the way out.  Coming back the tide was coming in, and we had to climb over driftwood.

We were happy to see the bench after almost two hours of walking.

We took a tour of the light house and learned how we could come back and even spend the night there.

View of the spit and the walk back to the car.

It was tight quarters, but they let us all go up top at once.

As we walked out to the light house, we could see Mount Baker looming across the Sound.

We spent some time with the locals.

Explored another state park in the area.

But mostly, we all just wanted to hang out with this girl.
